Ah, the StuG life!

Part 1

The Warlord/Italeri (plastic) 28mm StuG III Ausf. G. This one is actually a kit-bash of sorts; I've added/replaced some parts from the Rubicon Models StuG III kit and modified the gun barrel(s) to allow me option to field either the StuK 40 and the StuH 42 armed vehicles. This early/mid version of the Ausf. G seemed like the perfect candidate for some Mr. Surfacer love. Some minor corrections were also made to the kit after I had some some initial painting and of course will eventually be covered with crew stowage, when I get around to finishing it...eventually!

Gun mantlet from the Rubicon kit

I glued a small magnet inside the gun mantlet, and then drilled out the barrels and inserted metal rods in them. This allows me to easily swap barrels out and they are held in place by the magnet.

All-in-all not a bad kit, with some minor drawbacks. The tracks are the usual, fiddly, multi-piece type - very similar to their (Italeri) Panzer III tracks. There are not a lot of optional paths in terms of variants for the kit, but for the most part, a pleasant and quick build.
